Visit any charter yacht brokerage website, and you’ll find dozens of yachts from which to choose as well as suggested itineraries. The problem with many of these listings is that they don’t zero in on what makes each yacht special. Edmiston has answered the cries of media and megayacht charter guests alike in creating a list of what it considers the top charter yacht picks for this year, and what makes them stand apart. 1. TOY HEAVEN: Mariu. Sure, famed designer Giorgio Armani commissioned this 163’7” (49.9-meter) charter yacht. But that alone won’t make you book Mariu (above). Charter guests are happy to spend €185,000 per week because of her phenomenal selection of watertoys. She totes a handful of Flyboards, for example. Imagine a waterjet-propelled wakeboard that lets you shoot 30 feet straight up into the air. 2. CELEB CENTRAL: Highlander. If walls could talk, the stories that the ones aboard Highlander would tell would intrigue you. Formerly belonging to the Forbes family, Highlander entertained dignitaries and celebrities alike. Elizabeth Taylor, Mick Jagger, Sir Paul McCartney, President Ronald Reagan… the who’s-who list goes on for this 162-foot (49.45-meter) yacht, which is chartering for the first time in her history. Recently refitted (she was built in 1986), Highlander is available from €175,000 per week.
3. PARTY CENTRAL: Reborn. Throwing a big bash for a birthday or anniversary celebration? You and 74 of your friends and family can easily move from the two-level piano lounge out to the outdoor cinema. An onboard hair salon and on-staff hairdressers will leave you well-coiffed. This 249-foot (76-meter) charter yacht can also, of course, host more intimate affairs. The perfect place is the on-deck garden, pictured above. Reborn’s weekly rate starts at €495,000.
4. THROWBACK APPEAL: Shemara. Step aboard Shemara (above), and step back in history. Built in 1938 and refitted just last year, this charter yacht still features some of her original furnishings. Some more modern items are in the mix, too, chosen to complement the overall atmosphere. Fitting for a charter yacht of any era, Shemara has a hot tub and an alfresco massage space. Her weekly rate starts at €275,000.
5. THRILL SEEKERS: Teleost. If you find laying on a sunpad all day just too boring, try Teleost. For €165,000 per week, this charter yacht puts tons of tenders, plus sportfishing equipment, dive gear, and more at your disposal. If you do go fishing, you can count on dining on your catch when you get back onboard. Oh, and did we mention the 16-foot-long (five-meter-long) inflatable waterslide? It lets you zip from the boat deck into the water in a matter of seconds.
